Loving people is more than being nice...
Jesus didn't just stop with Love God, but He went on to say that a second command was like the greatest and first, He said we are to Love People.
Loving people is so much more than being a nice person, though it is not without this. Jesus, was so much more than nice. He loved, He served, He gave. And if Jesus' life is the perfect display of what loving people is, then we can look to Him for what it means to Love People.
He loved.
Jesus, loved us because He loved His Father. His life exemplified this; in His pursuit of loving God He loved us by remaining obedient to God in the way He lived His life. We too love others by the way we live before them. Our lives are not our own as Christians, and the way in which we live matters. If we honor God with our lives we are showing that we Love God, and if we are loving God, then we Love People.
People will see our love for God, and will know that we fear Him. Jesus' whole life on Earth was a display of His love for The Father, and in doing so He loved us.
He Served.
There are many ways in which Jesus served those around Him. On the eve of His crucifixion His last act of kindness before His ultimate one on the cross, Jesus, did something that would blow the minds of His disciples. He washed their feet. He did this to show how we are to love one another. If our Lord who is the most high, would wash our feet then how much more are we to wash each others feet.
Servanthood is one of the great marks of a follower of Christ.
He Gave.
The ultimate way in which Jesus loved and served mankind, was that He gave His life for us. There is no greater love story in all of History, nor could anyone come up with one to trump it. His humility on the cross was for us.
He Loved God, and He Loved People.
